“Our family sails with Kainani Sails every time we visit Maui, and we’ve now been out with them at least five times.”

Susan K. · Tripadvisor, February 2026

“We had an incredible day on the beautiful boat with our very capable and personable skipper, Noah! He was so knowledgeable about whales and within 20 minutes of leaving the shore we were lucky enough to spot one.”

“The ladies were not only the best I’ve seen at running a charter, but were so friendly, my family raved about them for days.”

How to find us

Meet us on the sand.

We pick up in front of Leilani’s on Kaʻanapali Beach, at Whalers Village. A shuttle boat takes you from the beach out to Kainani at anchor. The exact spot depends on beach conditions. Look for our inflatable shuttle boat. Call if you feel lost 808-495-1001.

Please arrive on time, and come earlier if you need to find parking.

Before you sail

Questions & policies.

What guests ask us most before they book.

  • Rates: $599 per hour · plus taxes, fees and gratuity
  • Included: your private boat with captain and crew, all snorkel gear, bottled water, aloha juices and flavored seltzer waters
  • Not included: alcoholic beverages, towel service and gratuity
  • Food, included: an appetizer platter on 3- or 4-hour trips, a catered lunch on 5- or 6-hour trips
What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel outside 7 days of your charter. If we have to cancel for any reason — bad weather, mechanical failure or anything else — you can reschedule or receive a full refund. If you decide not to go inside 7 days and don’t have trip protection, the payment is forfeited. We offer a trip protection option, and we do our best to work with you on rescheduling in special circumstances.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Unsafe weather is the captain’s call — if it’s unsafe, we’re definitely not going out. If we see bad weather coming, we try to call you ahead of time to reschedule. Sometimes it rains: passing showers aren’t necessarily a reason to cancel.

What if it’s windy?

You can’t sail without wind, and it’s often windy here. Our snorkel spots are protected.

How does boarding work?

We depart from Kaʻanapali Beach, in front of Leilani’s restaurant at Whalers Village. The exact spot depends on beach conditions, and a zodiac shuttle boat takes you from the beach out to Kainani at anchor offshore. Everyone should be able to walk through the sand. Please arrive on time, and come earlier if you need to find parking.

What should we wear and bring?

Easy-off slippers or sandals, shorts and things that may get wet, since we leave from the beach. Bring swimsuits and towels, sunscreen (no spray sunscreen, please), a hat and sunglasses, and a light jacket. We provide all the snorkel gear.

Can we bring food and drinks?

Yes. BYOB is welcome — we’re not allowed to provide alcohol — and you’re welcome to bring any other snacks or food you’d like. Every trip includes bottled water, aloha juices and flavored seltzer waters, and there’s a fridge, so anything you bring cold we can keep cold.

Do you cater for food allergies?

Yes. Let us know when you book and we’ll cater to them.

How many people can come?

Up to six guests on a private charter, with two crew. For bigger groups, or for a shared tour, see our sister company Makai Adventures (opens in a new tab).

Is snorkeling guaranteed?

Snorkeling is guaranteed on our 5-hour trips. On shorter sails we can often fit in a snorkel at Mala Wharf when conditions are right.

Will we see whales and dolphins?

Wildlife is never guaranteed, and we don’t offer guarantees on Kainani Sails. Whale season in Maui is usually December through mid-April; January and February are the easiest months, early December and April are harder. Whales are part of every trip whenever they’re in the area.

How much is a charter?

$599 per hour, plus taxes, fees and gratuity. Catering is included. See live availability on FareHarbor, or call (808) 495-1001.

What’s included?

Every trip includes your private boat with captain and crew, all snorkel gear, and bottled water, aloha juices and flavored seltzer waters. 3- or 4-hour trips include an appetizer platter; 5- or 6-hour trips include a catered lunch.

Can we sail longer?

Yes. We run charters of 6 hours or more, and adding an hour (or more) is popular, especially in whale season.

Is gratuity included?

Gratuity isn’t included; 18–25% is suggested. It can be added to your card at the end of the trip, or your crew will gladly accept cash or Venmo.

More than six? Rather share the boat?

Cruise with our sister company, Makai Adventures.

Kainani is private, for up to six guests. For bigger groups, or if you would rather join a shared tour, Makai Adventures runs shared whale watching, snorkel and fishing trips.
